Filip Reyniers

Director, IPIS
Director of IPIS since October 2012, Filip Reyniers oversees the general management of the organisation. He coordinates the research institute and reports to the IPIS Board and external stakeholders about IPIS’ activities. He has a special interest in the conflict-development nexus in fragile state contexts in sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on conflict minerals and arms transfer control. Previously he worked for the Belgian/Flemish Section of Amnesty International as a fundraiser, activism coordinator, and member of the coordination team on arms transfers and human rights, taking part in the campaign for a UN Arms Trade Treaty and applying human rights analysis to arms transfers in the Belgian context. Filip studied Law (undergraduate) and History at the University of Leuven and completed the High Studies for Security and Defence at the Belgian Royal Higher Institute for Defence, to which he presently is member of the Steering Committee. He is a Board Member of the Flemish Peace Institute, and Vice Chairman since 2020.
